Delhi's New Initiative: Receive Commercial Vehicle Challans Directly on WhatsApp
Delhi's Transport Department is launching a WhatsApp-based e-challan system for commercial vehicles, offering convenient, real-time notifications and reminders for vehicle owners.
Delhi: Commercial Vehicle Owners to Receive E-Challans on WhatsApp
In a tech-forward move, Delhi’s Transport Department will soon start issuing e-challans to commercial vehicle owners through WhatsApp, providing a faster and more convenient system for notifying vehicle owners. Owners not on WhatsApp will continue receiving notifications via SMS and email, officials report.
Delhi has a vast vehicle count with around 82 lakh active vehicles, and currently, the city issues approximately 1,000-1,500 e-challans per day. This number is expected to surge significantly with the new WhatsApp-based system in place.
Personalized Notifications via WhatsApp
The department has initiated the process of hiring a service provider to manage e-challan notifications for Delhi’s commercial vehicles. "The primary goal is to generate and send personalized notifications, including e-challans, using hyperlinks, PDFs, and text,” said a senior transport department official. To implement this, the provider will integrate the system with Delhi’s e-Parivahan portal, which maintains vehicle records and associated challans.
Once active, the system will automatically send e-challans, payment links, certificates, user manuals, and various notifications, including reminders and receipts, directly to vehicle owners through WhatsApp. Notifications will be accessible in both English and Hindi, catering to a wider audience.
How the System Works
The service provider will create and manage WhatsApp accounts connected with e-challans and offer a user-friendly interface that integrates with the Delhi Transport Department’s system. This framework will support various media formats, including text, images, video, and PDFs, enhancing user interaction.
