WhatsApp’s New Built-In Contact Manager: Effortlessly Save Contacts Without Losing Them When Switching Phones
Discover WhatsApp's latest built-in contact manager feature, designed to securely save contacts directly in the app, making it easier to manage contacts across devices without losing them.
New Feature Alert: WhatsApp's Built-In Contact Manager
WhatsApp has launched an exciting feature allowing users to save contacts directly within the app, eliminating the risk of losing important connections when switching devices. Previously, WhatsApp relied on contacts stored on the phone itself. With this new in-app contact manager, users can now save contacts directly to WhatsApp, ensuring contacts remain accessible even if the phone is lost or replaced.
Effortless Contact Management Across Devices
This update means that users can privately add contacts from any device they’re using WhatsApp on. Previously, adding a contact required saving the number to the phone’s contacts, but now, contacts can be managed directly in WhatsApp using the on-screen keyboard on WhatsApp Web and Windows.
According to WhatsApp, "We’re introducing an option to save contacts exclusively to WhatsApp. This new contact storage is perfect for users sharing devices or managing separate personal and business contacts on the same phone." Contacts saved to WhatsApp are backed up securely, making device transitions smoother.
Enhanced Privacy with IPLS Technology
Meta has explained that this new feature uses Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS), a cutting-edge privacy-preserving technology. IPLS keeps contacts encrypted and secure, allowing only the user to access saved contacts and offering an added layer of security.
Upcoming Username Feature
WhatsApp is also rumored to be developing a username feature, allowing users to connect without sharing their phone numbers. This privacy-enhancing feature would let users engage in conversations using unique usernames, adding convenience and security.
New iOS Home Widget
WhatsApp has revamped its iOS interface by introducing a Home Widget. After updating, iOS users can add the widget to their Home Screen and choose from Recents, Favorites, Pinned, or Frequently Contacted to easily access their top chats. This update is available in version 24.21.81 of WhatsApp.
