In a creative push for online safety, WhatsApp has partnered with actor Abhay Deol to launch a catchy music video as part of its ongoing privacy campaign. This video, set to the classic Bollywood song “Oye Lucky Lucky Oye,” uses humor and nostalgia to educate users on common scams and ways to protect themselves.
The campaign, developed in collaboration with BBDO India, illustrates realistic scenarios like fake job offers and OTP scams, showcasing WhatsApp’s strong privacy features designed to keep users safe. Deol, the campaign's charismatic lead, aims to make scam awareness both entertaining and impactful. “It was fantastic to revive the spirit of ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ for such an important cause,” said Deol. “This isn’t just about entertaining— it’s about helping people be safer online.”
Vyom Prashant, Meta’s Director of Consumer Marketing, noted that “user safety is at the heart of WhatsApp’s mission.” He added, “This music video delivers a powerful message, reminding users of our essential safety tools.”
BBDO India’s Josy Paul emphasized the power of familiar music to connect with viewers, stating, “Recreating a popular Bollywood track allowed us to spread a serious message in a fun, relatable way.”
This new video expands WhatsApp’s previous privacy campaign, launched in July, which focuses on empowering users to protect their online presence. The video highlights essential security features like Silence Unknown Callers, Two-Step Verification, and options to block and report unwanted contacts. Together, these tools help users maintain privacy and security on WhatsApp.
